FASHION DESIGN x CARMEN DE LA PUERTA
We talk about fashion design with Carmen de la Puerta
When and how do you start creating a collection?
We start a year in advance and we have the option of designing a fabric to later create a pattern according to that fabric, or having a pattern already made and later thinking about the fabric that would look best depending on the fall or structure we want to achieve. . Similar to a song. You have the option of creating the melody first or, on the contrary, writing the lyrics first.
The creative process of a collection or a specific guest dress is exciting, but it requires a lot of effort and taking care of every last detail. You have to consider the trimmings that each garment has: buttons, zippers, trimmings... This requires the constant search for new suppliers, seeing samples, attending fairs, etc...
How do you design a special print?
To design a fabric we have a graphic design team that makes several proposals according to the trending colors and prints of the season. Once the colors and prints have been chosen, our printer makes us samples in various qualities, as indicated, and in a few days, we receive them at the office. It's one of our favorite days!
Meanwhile, Carmen handles the design part and together with the design team, they create the patterns and samples.
Many times we love the result and other times we have to make corrections or we discard it altogether. Once we approve the sample, we give the green light to production. We always bet on slow fashion made in Spain.
Of any garment that comes into your hands; jumpsuit, jacket suit, blouse, dress or pants from Vogana, is thought out down to the last detail so that when you put it on you feel confident, comfortable and special.
What are your favorite Vogana prints?
Without a doubt, the Chiara dress was a success and one of the keys is its print.
A dress made of crepe satin with an impressive drape, bow at the neck and midi length.
A guest dress with a geometric print that was very popular for its fabric, color and how it highlights the female figure. Now you will find a very similar design in green and pink tones.
Another of my favorites would be the Valentina Set . This suit jacket is made of a natural viscose jacquard and after doing several color tests to get the exact Pantone...we did it!
This two-piece with puffed sleeves and a peplum cut highlights the female figure and is very versatile as well as an essential wardrobe item since you can wear and combine both pieces separately. Finally, the Lena jacket suit with XXL shoulder pads is another example in which we have designed the fabric. Once again, we opt for geometric prints for garments designed for everyday use and also for events such as weddings, baptisms and communions.
A suit that you will find in both strawberry and mustard and that is now on sale. These are just some examples of fabrics designed by our team, but without a doubt, the best is yet to come.
Warming up for next season!
